How do you analyze a problem before deciding on the course of action to take?

This is an opportunity to highlight your problem-solving skills. As assistant general counsel, you will be expected to work efficiently and accurately to address various business partners' concerns. By having a system of legal analysis already established, you demonstrate that you are prepared for the role.

"When a problem is presented to me, I ask my colleagues who have experience in the area if they have come across a similar issue in the past. After some initial (informal) research, I dive into the current law and cases that address the issue. Next, I evaluate the specific problem and the established law to see if there is an outcome that we can count on or if there are enough differences that other outcomes are possible. It is only after thinking through these different scenarios that I provide a conclusion for the course of action we should take.

Although the process may sound long, it does not have to be. I've found that by discussing the issue with colleagues, I'm able to more efficiently tackle the research I need to get done on my specific problem."
