What You Need to Know

The interviewer is giving you some insight into the languages that their hire will be using at Zillow. Considering the list of languages, think about which ones you have the most experience with and which you feel most comfortable with. If you'd like, you can rank your skills from beginner to intermediate, advanced, and expert. Doing so will give the interviewer a good idea of where you stand with each language.

Example Answer

"I am familiar with all of these languages; however, my skill level varies between these. I am most experienced and comfortable with Python and SQL, having been immersed in these for the past ten years. With React and Redux, I am a beginner level user and very open to working on strengthening these skills."

Example Answer 2

"In my current role, I work nearly all day in Java and Node. I would consider myself an advanced user in each of these. When it comes to Python, SQL, React, and Redux, I am an intermediate user. I can certainly commit to learning these further, before my first day at Zillow."

Anonymous Answer

I am familiar with Python and SQL. I am more familiar with Python than SQL since I am self-teaching myself Python to be able to experiment with data in a more robust/statistical way than MS Excel which is my main data analysis tool. I haven't programmed in Java but I took a first-year Turbo C programming class in college so I'm familiar with a similar language. I have never used React or Redux. As an investor, I am a customer of user interfaces so I haven't used React but the language looks intuitive and easy to learn. I'm surprised that I haven't used Redux since I listen to so many calls and have so many team meetings that's one I'm going to start to learn immediately.
