"Being a good steward can relate to patient care and managing inventory and supplies appropriately. I have many moral obligations and duties as a nurse, and providing the best care possible for patients is one of them. I would be an employee of Mayo Clinic, so knowing I'm a steward of the company and providing care on their behalf is important to me as I continue the pattern of excellence that Mayo Clinic has demonstrated. As for managing supplies, an example would be not excessively using supplies, giving them to patients to take home, or taking any for personal use (IE, latex gloves, alcohol pads, etc.)."

Stewardship is a core value of the Mayo Clinic, especially as a non-profit organization. Their website notes their goal is to "sustain and reinvest in our mission and extended communities by wisely managing our human, natural and material resources." The interviewer would like to know what this means to you and how you will be a good steward as an employee of the Mayo Clinic. As an RN, stewardship could be in the form of leadership, the ethical responsibility to act on behalf of others (advocacy), trustworthiness, integrity, or even maintaining inventory and supplies on the unit.
