1. Our company prides itself on providing excellent customer service. How do you provide excellent customer service?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Companies that provide excellent customer service greet customers with a smile and a greeting, listen to their customers, know their preferences, and go above and beyond to make them happy. The interviewer asks this question to determine if your values align with theirs. The interviewer wants to hear how you provide excellent customer service to see if you will be a good fit for the MinuteClinic team.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On
Think of how you like to be treated as a customer. Then, think of how you provide excellent customer service, treating your customers how you want to be treated. Describe your actions to provide excellent customer service to all, showing the interviewer you will be an asset to their team if hired. If you have received an award or recognition for the customer service you provide, be sure to include that in your response.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I value excellent customer service when I am the customer and provide the same service to my patients and their families. I greet everyone with a smile; I introduce myself, ask their name, and how they are doing. I listen to their needs and provide a solution to their problem. I ask them if they have questions and clarify anything they do not understand. I thank them for choosing our company and provide a business card so they can contact me at any time if they have questions."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I worked in hospitality for three years before pursuing a career in the healthcare industry, so I am very familiar with providing excellent customer service. I believe it starts with having a positive attitude and respecting the customer. When you listen to a customer's needs and provide a solution, they will be happy every time. If a customer is unhappy with something, I do my best to ensure their needs are taken care of and that they leave with a smile on their face."

2. In the healthcare services industry, there are many emotions in a day. Have your emotions ever gotten in the way of your productivity?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
The interviewer wants to know if you consider yourself to be an emotionally driven person. Talk to the interviewer about your emotions and if they have ever affected your productivity at work.
Remember that almost everyone is an emotional creature to some degree, but there are other ways to describe yourself that have a more positive connotation. If you are passionate, you could choose to refer to yourself as:
- Expressive
- Communicative
- Open
- Unreserved
- Warm Hearted
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On
Most healthcare professionals are compassionate and emotional individuals, which are excellent traits to possess. Assure the interviewer that while you can be an emotional person, you always maintain composure and professionalism and do not let your feelings interfere with your productivity.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"Everyone is emotional to a certain degree, and I consider myself kind-hearted and open. A healthcare career can sometimes be emotional; however, I focus on the positives. For instance - if we are close to losing a patient, I will focus on the positive memories rather than the illness. This mindset has consistently allowed me to continue with a productive shift no matter the emotions that come my way."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"This is a great question. I think the right answer is, 'Of course, but not for long!' We've all had those tough cases. A child dies, a patient yells at you, or you must give someone a cancer diagnosis. It's professional to take a few minutes after an encounter like that and let those emotions come and go. I cope with these emotions by telling myself that it's not my story; it's the patient's story. I think it's okay to be moved by someone else's experience, but I don't need to make it mine."

3. Our clinics are very busy and fast-paced. How well do you work under pressure?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
You must work well under pressure in whatever role you are interviewing for. Every workday will undoubtedly be stressful in a busy and fast-paced medical environment. Situations will come up that add stress to the work day, and you must be able to manage your stress for a successful outcome. The interviewer wants to hear that you work well under pressure and stay focused on the task at hand.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On
Focus on giving an example of working under pressure related to your role in the healthcare profession. You might have had a patient that went into cardiac arrest while you were assessing them or had a loved one come into the clinic who was injured while you were working. Using the STAR method is an excellent way to formulate your response to this question. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Briefly describe the situation, explain your role, the measures you took to solve the issues, and the outcome. The interviewer wants to hear that you can effectively work under pressure as a healthcare professional.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I work very well under pressure. I always remain calm and professional when faced with stressful situations. I find the best thing to do when there is a lot of pressure at work is to stay organized. I create a list, prioritize the most urgent assignments, and delegate work where I can. If I stay focused and know exactly what needs to be done, work stressors do not affect me."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I work very well under pressure. As a full-time student with a full load, I am constantly pressured to do my homework and complete multiple assignments. I also work part-time, so I have developed a system that prioritizes the most urgent assignments and tasks I need to complete to stay on track. I find that being organized and remaining focused on the task at hand keeps stress from taking over, which allows me to stay calm while working under pressure."

4. MinuteClinic seeks to hire those with strong problem-solving skills. When were you able to successfully resolve a problem in the workplace?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Problem-solving and dispute resolution are critical skills to possess. Display to the interviewer that you are capable of problem-solving within the workplace. Talk about a time you were creative, proactive, and displayed the leadership qualities required to resolve a workplace issue.
Written by Darby Faubion
Focus Your Answer On
If you are new to the industry and do not have a workplace example, provide an example from school that shows your ability to resolve a problem. Working in the healthcare industry requires quick-thinking individuals who can stay calm and professional when problems arise.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"In my most recent position, we had a consistent problem with employees arriving late for their shifts or calling in sick at the very last moment. Rather than the typical documenting and reprimanding style that management usually takes, I decided to track the results using an accountability reward system. For 180 days, I rewarded my employees for coming to work 10 minutes early. I also added a bonus for every month with zero sick days. Ultimately, we awarded those with perfect attendance a $600 bonus. In the end, the bonus cost us less money than the cost of lowered productivity due to absent employees. The program was successful, and upper management chose to keep it implemented for another six months. We will re-assess in December, but it seems to work very well."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I worked in a clinic where the primary population was low income. We had a lot of concerns with patients not showing up for appointments when expected. The staff wanted to start double-booking patient time slots. Instead, I got permission to spend a day in a highly-rated clinic serving the same population. Instead of scheduling, they had these 'drop-in mornings' with a common waiting room. I took these methods and incorporated them into our setting. We did that twice weekly, which completely solved our scheduling problem."

5. Why did you leave your last job?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
The interviewer wants to know why you left your last job to see if you were fired, laid off, or gave notice. If you were fired, they want to know if you will admit the reason, if you take responsibility, and what you learned from the experience. If you gave notice, they want to understand what you did not like about your job to see if you would fit in with the company culture.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On
Focus on being direct and honest, and explain why you left your last place of employment. If you gave notice, were laid off, or fired, describe the circumstances behind your departure. Be sure to end your response positively and tell the interviewer how excited you are to have the opportunity to interview for the position with MinuteClinic.

"I left my last job because there was no room for professional growth or advancement. I want to work in a supervisory position, but that was not possible in my previous place of employment because of the company structure. I gave my two weeks' notice and left on good terms. I have an excellent letter of recommendation if you would like a copy for your records."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022

6. In order to work for MinuteClinic, we require a full background check and a drug screen. Will you have an issue passing either?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
Working in the healthcare industry means you are in contact with vulnerable people, children, pharmaceutical drugs, drug-related equipment, confidential information, and other areas of sensitivity. You must disclose if you have a criminal record or drug abuse issue. If you have neither, assure the interviewer that you are able and willing to pass a complete background check and drug test.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On
As with any interview question, you want to focus on being completely honest in your response. As embarrassing as it may be, if you do not think you will pass the drug test or have a criminal background, you need to inform the interviewer now. If passing the drug test will not be an issue and you do not have a criminal history, assure the interviewer that you will have no problem passing both tests.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I have a clean criminal record and do not use drugs, so I will not have an issue passing either."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"No problem. I understand that it's part of the job. But I want to be up-front, I have done a full background check before, and there is a possibility you will see a charge for possession of marijuana in the check. It was several years ago, and it's no longer an issue for me because I've made significant changes in my life to pursue this career. But I don't want you to be surprised by the information. I'm happy to answer any questions you have and can assure you my drug test would be negative as I do not use marijuana or other drugs."

Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
The interviewer wants to know how you would rate your problem-solving skills to see if you have the skills they seek in a candidate. Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On

Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I rate my problem-solving skills as an 8/10. I am not always as efficient as I would like to be, but I feel that my problem-solving skills are above average. Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I get a solid 8.3 on a scale of 10. It seems weird to give myself something like a .3, but I think of it as an 83%, which is a B- teetering on a solid B. It's a solid grade, with definite room for improvement since I'm certainly not perfect. The reason for the B-/B grade would be that I'm quick to take action and figure out the solution as I go, but sometimes I could benefit from taking a moment to pause and reflect or gather other contributors before taking action. That said, I believe I generally get the best outcome possible when faced with a challenge."

29. MinuteClinic offers pre-travel consultations. Why do you feel medical consultation prior to travel is important?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
When planning to travel out of the country for business or pleasure, there are many things to think about. The most important part of planning your trip is making sure you and your family stay healthy when traveling. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends talking to a health care provider 4 to 6 weeks before a trip to give you time to prepare. Share your opinion on why this type of consultation could be beneficial. The interviewer wants to hear your reason for thinking this is beneficial to see how you would communicate this to your patients.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
Focus Your Answer On
Focus on providing several reasons why a pre-travel consultation is beneficial to patients. Your reasons could include updating vaccines needed to travel to another country, assessing the risk of blood clots if flying, checking that the patient's vital signs are within normal limits, or ensuring the patient has sufficient prescription medications for their travels.
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
1st Answer Example
"I can see where pre-travel consultations could be very beneficial. For instance, if someone takes prescription medications daily, up-to-date prescriptions should be on hand. Also, making sure the traveler does not have any illness that may be exacerbated by travel or be contagious to other travelers is important. Lastly, knowing what illnesses may be prevalent in a certain area may help a traveler plan a safe itinerary."
Written by Krista Wenz on August 12th, 2022
2nd Answer Example
"I think that a medical consultation before travel is a good idea. I took a cruise last year, and if I had not had a doctor's visit before the trip, I don't think I would have remembered to get medicine for motion sickness. I believe having a good check-up before traveling keeps the patient and those around them safe from any possible contagious illness, too."
