During your RN interview, addressing your ability to handle pressure is crucial. As a nurse, you'll encounter unexpected scenarios that require quick thinking and the capacity to stay composed and focused under pressure. Excelling in this area will allow you to provide superior care to your patients.
Give an example of working under pressure related to your role. For example, you may have had a patient who went into cardiac arrest while assessing them or had a family member come into the hospital who was injured while you were working. The STAR method is an excellent way to respond to this question. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Briefly describe the situation, explain your role, the measures you took to solve the issues, and the outcome. The interviewer wants to hear that you can effectively work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations.

"Working as a nurse, I've learned to thrive under pressure. In fact, I find that I'm at my best when things get hectic. Whether it's managing multiple patients, dealing with emergencies, or handling unexpected situations, I'm always focused and ready to take action. Of course, it's not always easy, but I've developed the skills and mindset necessary to stay calm and effective no matter what challenges come my way. At the end of the day, there's nothing more rewarding than knowing that I've helped someone in need, even in the most challenging circumstances."
