"There are many reasons a patient may be agitated. It could be a side effect of medication, frustration with being hospitalized, or perhaps a result of cognitive impairment or disability. It's important to remain calm and cautious. When I was a student finishing my clinical rotation, I worked with a patient who was often distressed or agitated. I first assessed their immediate needs and whether or not they were a threat. If I felt they might be aggressive or violent, I would ask another staff member to come into the room while I provided care or treatment. If it was more about their frustrations, I took the time to listen to their concerns and address them appropriately. I never let their emotions or stress affect me, and I remain calm and professional. I seek to provide my patients with comfort and care from a holistic perspective."

"Because I have worked with patients with behavioral health patients for years, I am familiar with ways to treat and care for those who are agitated.
