"(Situation & Task) While working as an Investment Analyst with Company XYZ, I was responsible for supporting the Investment Management team through research and strategic recommendations. During the pandemic, we began to find that regulations were becoming more stringent, and investment banks were required to have greater safeguards against compliance breaches. This situation presented an excellent opportunity for our small firm to explore a more robust, more efficient tech stack. (Action) I began researching new tools, processes, and systems to boost our teams' efficiencies and safeguard us through a better-consolidated system. After a couple of weeks, I made solid recommendations to the Investment Management team. (Result) By spotlighting the upside of greater efficiencies and added security, I initiated smart and responsible change within the firm. I started my current position in 2019 after the department had experienced the tragic loss of two key individuals. The current Director and I started our positions on the same day and have never met each other prior to walking into work at 7:00 AM that morning. The department was left in a huge mess and the two of us developed a plan to move forward. I created a process of tracking and organizing the piles of paperwork. After approximately 6 months I had the department organized and running smoothly. It took many long hours and dedication but I was very proud of the accomplishment.

What kind of paperwork did you organize and begin tracking? How did you determine that the department was running more smoothly at the end of the six months? Is there a quantifiable (i.e., number/percentage) you can include to make this positive result even more impactful to the interviewer? Great job!

As a Controller at ________, I was responsible for managing all financial aspects of the company, in lieu of a CFO. I was directly involved with researching more efficient accounting and inventory software. I researched solutions and determined the most appropriate move was to a newer, more efficient accounting system. I organized a team of support staff for software conversion and utilization. I worked with the appropriate vendors, IT support companies, and employees to provide a successful migration from our legacy accounting systems to Microsoft Great Plains. All data was successfully migrated, employees were trained and the new system was implemented.
