The key is to have an organized approach to managing the team at Cisco, assigning each member tasks that they are qualified to complete and providing them with the resources needed to get the job done. The Cisco interviewer is interested in how you go about doing this, the tools you use, and whether those tools are the same ones their organization currently uses. "Managing my team's time and keeping everybody on schedule is a challenge. I've found that the best way to accomplish this is to use project management tools. These vary depending on the organization I am working with. Some of the tools I am most familiar with and have used in the past include Trello, Asana, Wrike, and Clarizen. Each of these tools has its features and benefits. Still, the common features include the ability to track individual team members, their assignments and projects, the capability of breaking projects down into individual tasks, alerts that tell me when a project or task is behind schedule, and a list of resources associated with each project. Having a dashboard to provide this information is invaluable and allows me to manage my team's time and keep our projects on schedule and under budget."
