Disaster recovery is an important element of any information technology strategy. Having a disaster recovery plan in place will ensure that Cisco can continue to function and that the information it depends on will not be lost due to a minor event or major disaster. As a Cisco IT engineer, you should be very familiar with disaster recovery strategies and have participated in creating a DR plan or designed one yourself. Suppose you do not have direct experience in this area. In that case, you should still discuss the key elements of an effective disaster recovery plan and answer any questions the interviewer may have about it.

"In each of my previous roles, my team was responsible for creating an effective disaster recovery strategy. These involved redundant systems, replicating data, having both on-site and off-site DR systems, and creating a plan to allow the business users to access the information technology systems and data in the case of a disaster. We collaborated with the business unit leaders to create this plan, using their input as to what resources their users would need in a disaster and where they would access them from. In my most recent organization, we contracted with a backup organization that could provide workspaces for our users with all the IT systems they needed to do their jobs and access the backup servers, storage, and data in our DR facility."
