Building new relationships with new peers and leaders isn't always an easy task. It can be intimidating to some people to meet new people, especially in a brand new work environment.

Some ways to get started include:

- Show a willingness to accept feedback and help
- Offer to join a committee or volunteer assistance in some way
- Avoid an air of entitlement or acting like a know-it-all...be ready to learn
- Avoid any gossip and speculation
- Ask meaningful questions and listen intently
- Be early on your first day (and every day after that!)

Strong co-worker connections can take time to form. Discuss the action steps you take to ensure that you have an active communication line with your co-workers, team, and management right from the start. Be as specific as possible in your response.

Consider incorporating language from Amazon's values and culture statements when you reply. For example, you could fold in details of the Leadership Principle, 'Earn Trust.' This principle states that "Leaders listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully. They are vocally self-critical, even when doing so is awkward or embarrassing.
