How do you define informed consent?
During an interview for a healthcare position, you may be asked about various medical terminology to determine if you are the right candidate for the job. A patient gives informed consent to a physician for treatment with full knowledge of the possible risks and benefits. Orthopedic Physician Assistants must inform their patients about the risks and benefits of treatment before administering such treatment. The interviewer wants to know that you understand the importance of informed consent to avoid being charged with negligence and battery.
"I define informed consent as the patient having the right to choose what is done to their body. I inform my patients of both the risks and benefits of treatment and let them choose. Whether they agree to receive treatment or choose to refuse it, even if I may disagree, it is their right to make their own choices."
