The interviewer wants to see what you are passionate about outside of work and how closely related your interests might be to your profession. Volunteers are typically compassionate and empathetic, which are excellent skills to have as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant. Volunteers also put others before themselves and are dependable and honest. It is okay if you do not have any volunteer experience, just explain how your schooling and work have limited your ability to volunteer, but you are open to volunteer opportunities in the future. You can use any examples of volunteer work you have done.

"I have volunteered since I was 13 years old. My family taught me the importance of giving back to the community, and we would always volunteer as a family. I have volunteered at soup kitchens, food banks, battered women's shelters, assisted living facilities, and most recently in South Africa with Doctors Without Borders. I was in South Africa for two weeks assisting less developed communities with orthopedic issues."
