SEO (search engine optimization) is relevant to all online marketing, and it's highly likely the content marketing position you're interviewing for will involve creating content for the web. The interviewer wants to know if you're familiar with SEO and how it works so you'll be able to integrate it into the content you develop.
"SEO is an online marketing strategy that aims to increase the visibility of a website or blog in search results on search engines like Google. It's obviously very important to make sure your site is ranked high in the results so you get more traffic - that is, customers - to your website. I actually have direct experience with SEO and helped my current company optimize its website by assisting the SEO specialist. I learned a lot from that experience, including how to develop content that uses relevant keywords without keyword stuffing. Good content writing involves creating engaging, accessible content that also ranks high. It's a bit of an art form, and while there's always room to learn, I do feel confident in how I incorporate SEO into my work."
This question combines knowledge assessment with the application, so you'll want to start with a brief description of what SEO is and then delve into how you will use it in your content marketing work.
