The interviewer would like to know if you are comfortable taking a customers' order and turning it into an opportunity to add on menu items or upgraded beverages. If you have a specific example of a time when you upsold a customer, a brief story-based example could be an excellent addition to your reply. Be sure to mention any training that you have in sales, upselling, or a similar skill.

"I believe that each customer service interaction should be considered an opportunity to upsell or turn an order into a larger one. In my current position as a cashier at a fast-food restaurant, I started making it a habit to ask each customer if they want to upgrade to an additional side order. As a result, I have boosted sales by over 1200 this month alone! I am very comfortable upselling when I can stand behind the quality of the food items that I represent. As a regular Panera Bread customer, I know that I can wholeheartedly stand behind the delicious, high-quality products available to your customers."
