What type of manager brings out the best in you?

What are some positive relationships you've had with managers in the past? What made these relationships so successful?

"My most recent manager is an extremely hard worker and always shows so much enthusiasm for the work, the store, and the company as a whole. Her excitement and work ethic was infectious -- I wanted to do my best work because I wanted to please her and meet her expectations. She has high standards for her employees and makes it a point to give regular feedback, but her criticism is always gentle and purposeful. I would love to work with a manager like her again."

I enjoy working with managers who are enthusiastic in their work; I find that sort of ethic infectious and makes me want to meet their expectations and my own. During the year, I worked as a trainee buyer, and the feedback I got from my supervising buyer was regular, and criticism was purposeful and positive. I would love to work with a manager like that again as I felt supported and appreciated.
