Question 1 of 35

Tell me about yourself.

"I've worked several jobs in retail and the office sector. But I find that the work environment I enjoy working in most has a lot of social interaction and the opportunity to work with my hands and exercise my mind. There is nothing better than getting a workout while you are at work. I got tired of working in a cubicle and decided to return to retail. Lastly, I am a DIY fanatic and a go-to resource for just about every home improvement project you can imagine, and Home Depot naturally feels like the perfect fit for me."

      How to Prep

This friendly, introductory question will help your interviewer get a better idea of your personality, how you might fit into their team, and whether their working environment would be a good fit for you. Home Depot advertises on their careers pages, "What's the best place we've ever built? The place where we work. Here, you can be yourself and also be part of something much bigger." Before presenting your best first impression, you'll want to get a fair idea of what their work environment and work culture look like. Arriving prepared is not only respectful but shows you have a strong work ethic and are invested in this opportunity.

      How to Answer

In an interview, you shouldn't just tell your interviewer what you think they want to hear. You don't know them, so it is impossible to know what they want to hear other than the truth. Every interviewer wants to know who you are, why you are here, where you've come from in your career, and where you are going. If you answer those questions with sincerity and genuinely want to work for them, it will show. So when presenting your elevator pitch, try to answer their question as succinctly as possible and stick to those points. Also, actions speak louder than words. If your answers reveal the work you put in to prepare for your interview, you'll be offering evidence of the truth of your words.
