Advice and answer examples written specifically for a Home Depot job interview.
31. How do you handle stress on the job?
How to Prep
Most companies offer mental health services to support a positive work-life balance. Home Depot is no different, offering their employees "additional resources for a healthy lifestyle" such as "24/7 virtual doctor care can help to improve (or maintain) your physical and mental wellbeing, discounts on fitness equipment, programs, and gym memberships and more." But your interviewer needs to know that you put an effort towards this aim as well. So showcase your emotional intelligence and how you manage your stress even during the most stressful times.

How to Answer
Most retail environments can be fast-paced, high-pressure environments, especially when they are front-line workers or occasionally understaffed. Every employer has a concerted interest in maintaining their employees' job satisfaction and staving off burnout syndrome to ensure employee retention. Therefore, your interviewer is curious about how effectively you manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Answer Example
"I am quite resilient to stress. I believe this is because of my eight-plus years of experience in a management role in a fast-paced environment. Under extreme stress, I make sure to give myself a breather, whether that be a quick walk around the block or a couple of minutes on the phone with my wife, who is great at bringing me back down to earth."
