"Advances in Quantum computing made in the past year will change the foundation of computing in the future. They will direct and affect the cybersecurity landscape, particularly where cryptography and encryption are concerned. Cryptographic keys used today to secure data may be breakable by quantum computers in 10-20 years, so new algorithms - which are in the second round of the international selection process - need to be utilized asap."
