What would you do if your coworker did not show up for their shift?

Sick days, unexpected delays, and no-call, no-shows happen in every industry. In retail, unexpected absences can cause managers to scramble to find coverage. If you are not a manager, finding coverage will not be your responsibility. However, your interviewer would like to know they can depend on you to step up if the situation calls for it. This may mean covering a shift that wasn't originally yours or working in a department or covering a duty you usually don't. Express your flexibility and willingness to step in where you are needed.

"I am more than willing to cover a shift for a coworker if I can. I don't mind accepting overtime hours. I consider myself a team player and am willing to step in where I'm needed."

"If a coworker failed to show up for their shift, I would step into whatever role the store needed me in. If they asked me to cover the shift and I was available, I would. If they asked me to cover a department or duty outside of my normal responsibilities, I would volunteer. I've found that businesses run more smoothly when their employees are flexible and willing to step up."
