If a member of the gym uses a machine incorrectly, they could be injured. The interviewer wants to see if you step in and offer to show the member the correct way to use the machine or feel that it is not your responsibility. How you approach the member is also being evaluated when answering.

"I have had this happen frequently in my previous job. When I see a member using a machine incorrectly, I am worried they may hurt themselves. I approach them, introduce myself, and ask if I may show them a little trick with the machine to obtain better results. I try to be discreet, so I don't embarrass them in front of the other members. I explain that the machine will be more effective if they use it 'this' way, and I demonstrate how the machine is to be used. That method has been effective for me, and has even got me some new clients."
