How to Answer
Community Answers
The interviewer wants to know if you're an effective communicator. They are also interested in learning if your communication style seems like it would fit into the company culture.
"I'm a fairly direct communicator, which aligns with my need for efficiency. I like to get straight to the point, but I always allow time for questions, and I'm observant of others' body language and facial expressions. For example, last week I explained a new social media campaign to my team. I had three key points to cover, and I went through them quickly. When I was done, several people were looking down at their notepads, and those who were looking at me looked confused. I suspected I may have explained things too quickly, so I asked if everyone wanted me to go through the points again. Everyone nodded, and I laughed to ease any tension they might have felt from not understanding."
Think about the ways you deliver both good and bad news. You may like to get straight to the point or prefer a more indirect approach. Answer the question by describing your communication style and giving an example.
