What experience do you have developing technology roadmaps?
Delivery managers may be tasked with the development and maintenance of project or program roadmaps. Interviewers who ask this question are interested to know about a candidate's approach to developing roadmaps and their level of experience with the type of planning knowledge required to develop this strategic deliverable.
Do not confuse an IT roadmap for a project plan. For example, interviewers would not expect to hear a candidate discuss their process for documenting individual tasks on a Gantt Chart.
"I contributed to our team's roadmaps when I worked as an analyst. I helped define the scope and timing of the strategic and tactical initiatives we were working on and communicated how they aligned with various business groups. In my current position as an implementation manager, I work with my clients to help them define roadmaps for implementing our SaaS solutions. We typically use a phased approach, and the roadmaps communicate high-level initiatives, timelines, cost, and status."
