How do you stay physically fit to perform the strenuous activities involved as an EMT?

Working as an EMT involves many strenuous activities, and employees need to be in good shape. There is heavy medical gear to carry, patients and gurneys to lift, and patients in situations that are not always easily accessible. Explain what you do to keep yourself in top physical shape. If you do not have a fitness regime or are not in good shape now, explain how you plan on achieving your fitness goals.

"I understand the importance of being physically fit in this profession. I stay in shape by working out at least four or five days a week, depending on my schedule. I like to run, mountain bike, and lift weights, concentrating on full-body workouts. When I have a few days off in a row, my family likes to go camping, hiking, and river rafting. I feel doing a combination of different activities keeps me in the best shape."
