By understanding your most substantial areas of interest, the Admissions Committee can predict which courses you will enjoy most while completing the PA program at Midwestern University. How you respond should also show the decision-makers how you will fit into the student population and culture.
First, mention which area of medicine is your least favorite and why. Keep your response positive and avoid making negative over-arching statements about one area of medicine. Remember, the Admissions Committee wants to see that you have an openness and curiosity to learn about all aspects of medicine, even if they aren't the most exciting to you. Then, talk about your strongest interests when it comes to the medical field. Let your passion shine by describing why you are fascinated with this area of medicine.

"My least favorite area of medicine would be Orthopedics simply because I don't have much experience in that area and have not developed much passion or excitement for it. However, I respect and value the field and am open to learning more about it. As a nurse, I work on many units that I have grown to love. If I had to choose just one area of medicine as my favorite, it would be mental health. Often the patients I care for have co-occurring medical and psychiatric illnesses. These experiences have helped me realize how much assessing and diagnosing are involved in mental health assessments. My current nursing job has provided me with excellent opportunities to explore how the mind works, and I love how it's a flat concept and diagnoses cannot be determined by lab orders alone. Mental health requires work that is very interactive and communicative. From my observations, the realm of mental health requires practitioners to invest more time in developing relationships with their patients and making meaningful connections."
