Describe a time you understood someone else's viewpoint that differed from your own.
"I recently had a conversation with a customer who challenged the health statements of the signage of a particular product, especially concerning healthy versus unhealthy cholesterol. I had my opinion, and they had theirs, but they were adamant in convincing me their viewpoint was correct. I let them assert their opinions, remaining impartial. I listened and actively mirrored. I hadn't heard some of the information they imparted to me. I thanked them for sharing. They left feeling proud of themselves, and that's all that mattered. It led to a better customer service experience, and I had nothing to prove."
Remember to communicate your answer as clearly and professionally as possible. You want to showcase your communication skills when answering questions about communication. Some of the best communication tools are active listening and mirroring a person's words back to them. Offer an example where you've applied these or other communication tools. Display that you can adapt your style to the style of others and are patient and enjoy relating to others. Even when that may not be enough, you've at least exhibited that you performed at your best with what you had to work with.
