What is your familiarity in working with patients on government-funded healthcare coverage?

"No matter who walks through my clinic doors, I treat all patients the same and provide the best care possible. With my current organization, we see patients that are enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan for low-income people. As part of the coordinated care organization network, we as providers can focus on the patients and not worry about the back end of insurance payments, deductibles, or co-pays for our patients."

"I believe all people should have access to equal healthcare services regardless of their socioeconomic or ethnic background. I am very familiar with the Medi-Cal program and currently work with patients that have coverage through the program. While I normally don't have access to patient insurance coverage information, I'll often get asked questions on coverage by people who have it. I am very informed about the program. I can answer patients' questions about their coverage and know where to look if I don't have the answer."

The interviewer mainly wants to know about your experience working with lower-income patients. Unless you are interviewing for a position in billing, the interviewer isn't as concerned with what you know about government-funded healthcare but about how you interact with and treat patients with government-funded healthcare.
