With home building projects, there are many variables present, which can make for an unpredictable workplace environment. No matter the position you are applying to, there will be situations out of your control. The interviewer would like to know how you react when it comes to unexpected setbacks. Show that you can cope with changes and pivot your approach, as needed.

"I come from a competitive sales environment that can be highly emotional, especially when big sales fall through or targets are not met. These emotions could get the better of me if I let them; which I do not. If I miss a goal or face a perceived failure, I visit what I could have done differently. I have learned to process situations and make unpredictable situations work for me rather than against me. For instance, last week, I had the sale of a 600K home fall through because the couple felt it was not their dream home. I turned this situation into an opportunity to upsell them to a higher luxury home for 70K more."

"Setbacks can be disappointing, but they happen. Luckily, I am a very pragmatic thinker and can remain focused despite unexpected challenges. If needed, I will debrief with my manager and make a plan for avoiding a similar situation in the future."
