"Although I thoroughly enjoy my current job, I am ready to take my security experience to the next level and move into a more formal public protection role. I have worked for an independent security service provider for three years, primarily patrolling large public events such as festivals, concerts, and sporting events. It is a great job; however, I do not view it as a long-term career. Working for the TSA would fulfill my goal of kickstarting a true career focused on public protection."

"At my current position, I thoroughly enjoy the physicality of the job, and I don't mind the rotating shifts or the schedule. But despite enjoying the physical activity of the job, it isn't very rewarding. I have always wanted to serve my country in some capacity. I have a good friend who works as a TSO and has been suggesting I try out for the position for a while. So, recently deciding against joining another law enforcement branch, I concluded that this is the right fit for me and my goals."

While I enjoy the interactions I have with customers and Safeway does have some good benefits, I've just never seen it as a forever home. TSA would be a great career with better pay and benefits.

Kevin's Feedback
I've reworded you answer slightly slightly for clarity. See below.
I have really enjoyed interacting with customers through my role at Safeway. I have gained many skills and valuable experience that has allowed me to grow, and because of this, I feel I am ready for my next challenge. I am searching for my forever home, and I believe TSA would be a great fit for me for the long haul.

Not so much that I want to leave but I'd like to upgrade my employment to a TSA Officer.
Mary's Feedback
Great response- companies view negative comments about current employers as a 'red flag'. See below for reformatted response- you may add knowledge about the job here.
I am looking forward to bringing my skills and knowledge on procedures and safety to an elevated role as a TSA Officer in order to interact more with the public and provide security and protection to travelers.

Although, I have enjoyed working with my current team members and have learned a lot. I am looking for a new challenge to focus on. I believe working for the TSA can provide new learning experiences and help me grow even further.

Rachelle's Feedback
This is a good start; however, I recommend getting really specific with this answer. What do you enjoy in your current position that you would like to see more of? List a couple of challenges you want to have in your next opportunity (e.g., leadership, continued education, pride in work with a mission). Lastly, list a couple of challenges or learning experiences that you believe the TSA will offer you.

I applied for this job over a year ago. I think it would be a very rewarding career and something to be very proud of. I have worked many years in the food industry, it is time for a change and a new course of direction. I am hoping for this to be my last career change and retire in twenty years.
Marcie's Feedback
Excellent. Your answer shows that you've wanted this job for a long time now and that you believe it will be rewarding, which the interviewer will appreciate. Wanting a change is perfectly understandable. It's also great that you indicate you're looking to work there long-term if you get the job. Interviewers typically like to hear that. Good job!

I presently work for _________. My present work assignment can be changed at any time. My workdays and hours would as well. I want to work directly for my employer. Working for the Federal Government would be the highlight of my work career.

Chad's Feedback
Great! It sounds like you are seeking more stability in your career, which the interviewer will understand. You can make this answer even more impactful by adding more detail. Tell the interviewer what you enjoy most in your current position, in order to set a positive tone. Next, list a couple of goals you have set for yourself in your career, and explain how the TSA screener role aligns with these goals.

Although I have enjoyed my time working as a substitute teacher, I always saw myself working for the government. I've seen how prosperous my father's government career has been and the amazing opportunities he's had and I would like the same thing for myself. Therefore, I see the TSA as a great way to get my foot in the door and jump-start my federal career.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! You have clearly explained why you're interested in making a career move. Can you discuss further why TSA in particular interests you? It's nice that you're interested in working for the government, but the interviewer will want to know why you're specifically interested in TSA. Be sure to clarify this. Nice job!

I like the mission of the TSA to protect America. I traveled a lot in the past and I always admire the work of the TSOs.
I have always read all the instructions that the airlines say because I know that TSA keeps the country safe.

Jaymie's Feedback
Great! If you see yourself being there long-term and growing, potentially even leading, be sure to include that as well.
Prepare for behavioral scenarios and security questions that TSA interviewers prioritize.
