Interviewers look to behavioral-based responses to predict how an individual will operate in a similar, future circumstance.

Well, the truth is that in our household, we say "Do we have a situation or do we have a problem" more often than not it is a situation, and more often than not if you fix the situation it doesn't become a problem. Stress comes and goes at different levels for many people. It's important to take a second and asses. Break it down.

Great answer and mantra! So, in other words, before a situation escalates into a full-blown problem you take steps to fix it. This is definitely what the interviewer will want to hear. You assess the situation, break it down into smaller, actionable steps, and then begin addressing it. Excellent. You might also talk about the methods you use to relieve stress, like exercising, hanging out with friends, listening to music, or baking. It's good to show you have healthy outlets for stress.

I understand that stress is an aspect of the job but based on my past work experiences, I have learned to not let stress get to me. I do this by compartmentalizing and remaining focused on the primary task and if time allows, tackling the primary stressor. For instance, when I worked in a special ed kindergarten classroom there were many stressful moments every day. We would have students lash out physically and or emotionally and when this happened it was crucial to stay calm and collected so that you, the student, other students, and staff are not harmed while the staff descaled the situation. I and the other staff would do this by remaining calm and speaking in a smooth voice to the child so they and the class feel safe, if that does not work, we would brainstorm ways that we can calm this child and that might take a while, in the meantime, they scream and thrash. Another instance of handling stress is when I was working in Starbucks, we would often get a long line and many customers would come up to my cash register annoyed but I would not let that get to me. I would compartmentalize by focusing on the task which was taking people's orders and providing exceptional customer service.
