The TSA includes 'Team Spirit' in their core values statement. The administration describes team spirit as being 'open, respectful, and dedicated to making others better.' Also, having 'a passion for challenge, success, and being on a winning team.' The TSA believes that Team Spirit means the willingness to build teams around your strengths.
Some ways that you may exude this value include:
- Helping others during busy times
- Answering questions for your teammates
- Encouraging professional growth
- Tapping into the group of experts around you
Being a TSA Screener is a team effort, and the interviewer needs to hear that you work well on a team. Tell the interviewer the ways that you embody this definition of Team Spirit.

"My view of team spirit goes deeper than being on a team or doing your part. It is about building relationships, earning trust, and being open, respectful, and dedicated to every member of your team. In this, you establish a bond, a camaraderie you couldn't otherwise attain. It's about sharing a passion for challenge, success, and a communal aim for being on a winning team. You have to be willing to support your teams utilizing all your strengths and sharing a desire to help your nation, strengthening our transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement of the public and commerce."

Yes as a firefighter I've found that working as a team not only lightens the workload but each member of the team's strengths lessons another members weakness.

Kevin's Feedback
I've reworded you answer slightly slightly for clarity. See below.
As a firefighter, I have had extensive experience in working with teams. I love working in a team environment and have found that when teams work together effectively, it lessons the workload for everyone.
Also, in team, every member can bring forth their strengths, without focusing on their weaknesses.

Knowing someone is aware of your duties and is there to help you if you need it. Having the ability to troubleshoot together on any issues that may arise.
Mary's Feedback
This may be an opportunity to demonstrate a recent example of a time you worked to collaborate with your team. Consider three key areas: Situation, Action and Result.
Teamwork is a very important part of my role. [Situation] On a day where multiple coworkers called out sick, [Action] we came together as a group to determine the most important priorities of the day. We assigned team members to duties that best-suited our strengths and communicated throughout the day on progress. [Action] We were able to accomplish the day's duties with minimal issues, despite the shortage.

Great. Again, you have good experience to draw on and I'd use it to expand on your answer. Is there an example that shows you working as part of a team with a good result?

I love team spirit. It was my biggest strength. I was a Training specialist for many of the restaurants, and I would go to each store and hold team meetings for all trainers. Referring back to our training dept, much of my disappointment was when they kept changing the structure.
Marcie's Feedback
It's great that you like being a part of a team and even leading them! Consider giving more details about how you encouraged teamwork during the meetings you held for trainers. Also, make sure to talk about how you will be a team player as a TSA screener. You could mention that you take the time to get to know your coworkers and that you like to plan and attend colleague social and volunteer events. In addition, you might mention how everyone shares the common goal of keeping travelers safe and you look forward to being a part of that.

I greatly appreciate that the TSA values teamwork. I am most comfortable working in a team environment because I believe that teamwork allows us to distribute the weight of responsibility to each person which allows each person to work more efficiently and makes the team more productive. I will contribute to the team spirit by fulfilling my responsibilities, communicating with my teammates, and helping anyone that might need extra support.
Marcie's Feedback
Excellent. It sounds like you will be a wonderful teammate. :) Team spirit might also refer to believing in the organization and encouraging high morale. Will you participate in and/or initiate social events like team lunches? Other ways you can encourage team spirit include recognizing the accomplishments of team members, being inclusive, and mentoring junior members.
Prepare for behavioral scenarios and security questions that TSA interviewers prioritize.
