I had a patient who showed signs of mental improvement, and I thought they were ready to live unsupervised. I received a call from the family who told me their son's neighbors had called the police on him several times the night before for erratic behavior, and he was in police custody. My patient was not taking his medications and was having manic episodes. After talking with the family, we decided he was better off in a group home where staff could administer and monitor his medications."
