Tell me about the duties of your last job and walk me through a typical day.

When answering this question, provide an example that shows how you stay motivated when the store is quiet. Demonstrate that you realize there are many days when nothing out of the ordinary happens.

"When I begin my shift, I read through the previous day's log so I know what happened when I left. I review the schedule so I know which employees are working during my shift and check in with my supervisor. Most days, I follow a particular routine as I walk through the store and will spend more time in busier sections of the store. I position myself so that I can see the entrance and the register.

To stay focused, I keep a mental note of which customers were at the register just before exiting the store."
