Assistant project managers are often responsible for maintaining project related data and artifacts such as project plans, task status, and budgets. Many companies rely on systems or suites of applications to track these various points of data, provide dashboards, preform analysis, and generate related reports. Interviewers ask this question to determine if a candidate has experience using these types of systems as they may be required to use them on a daily basis as an assistant project manager.
Remember to communicate that you are comfortable with learning new technology in the event you do not have experience using any sort of project management tool. Interviewers value candidates that express willingness and excitement to do the work necessary to get up to speed on the tools required to be successful in the assistant project manager role.
