"In my current role as a Phlebotomist in a large hospital, we often work short staffed during times of peak census. These times can be stressful due to the number of draws each individual on our team has to perform. When these times occur, I find that staying organized with my work helps me to prioritize any high-priority draws that are ordered while still allowing time for regular inpatient draws from our units. I treat every patient with compassion, no matter how busy I am. I stay organized by making a plan at the beginning of my work day and altering the plan as new things come up. Without proper planning, the workday and patient blood draws could get away from me very quickly.
