How to Answer: If you could expand your knowledge and expertise in any healthcare service area, which would you choose?
Advice and answer examples written specifically for a LifeLabs job interview.
4. If you could expand your knowledge and expertise in any healthcare service area, which would you choose?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
There are many facets of health care. The interviewer asks what other areas interest you to gain insight into your personality and strengths. They will also see what patient populations you will be the best working with. For example, if you say you would like to expand your knowledge in pediatrics, the interviewer will see that you enjoy working with children.

Focus Your Answer On
Be sure your answer aligns with the services LifeLabs offers or the patient population. If you say you would like to expand your knowledge in brain surgery, the interviewer may think you will be a short-term employee because you want to become a surgeon. It is better to say you want to become more knowledgeable about the geriatric or pediatric side of healthcare as you will work with patients in both age groups.

1st Answer Example
"If I could choose any area of healthcare services to be a subject matter expert in, I would choose geriatric care. I do feel that this particular focus is not as popular as some, and becoming an expert in it would allow me more options in my career."

2nd Answer Example
"I have various interests within the healthcare industry, so that is a tough question for me! If I had to narrow it to just one area of expertise, I would say pediatric care interests me the most. I have two children of my own and love working and being around kids."
