"Throughout my career, I've proven my ability to put customers first in everything I do. This was made most clear a couple of years ago when I was set to meet with a prospective customer and they contacted me to let me know that they'd be unable to meet given an unexpected family situation. I immediately let them know to call me at their earliest convenience to reschedule and when they did, I coordinated our meeting for the coming Saturday. I was happy to meet with this prospective customer on my day off because of the amount of business they would bring. Our meeting went great and we had a contract signed by the following week. As Fonterra's next area manager, I will always be flexible for the farmers I will be working with on a daily basis."

"In my current role, I go above and beyond to make all of our new hires feel comfortable. This is not something that I'm formally tasked with, but I always put myself in someone else's shoes and look at things from their situation. I have a close colleague who still thanks me to this day for welcoming her with open arms and taking the time to train her on the small things around our office. Prior to your interview with Fonterra, put some thought into a time you went the extra mile to please a customer or to ensure that a tight deadline was met with ease. No matter what example you use, be sure to make a couple of things clear. First, discuss why taking extra steps in the situation was important and reiterate that you didn't hesitate to do so. Then make sure your interviewer walks away knowing that you will be the type of employee who will take any necessary steps to ensure a job well done.
