"I believe that fostering an environment of collaboration and alignment is one of the most important aspects of a product manager's role. Product development, maintenance, and support require effort from resources across a variety of areas of expertise and it is important to develop a shared vision, communicate it properly, and continually align everyone throughout the lifecycle of a product.

One of the most essential tools I use to foster alignment is the product roadmap. I would collaborate with the teams involved in its creation and maintenance. I would also circulate it and discuss it often to ensure that the teams involved understand the implications and interdependencies across the various streams of work.

I would foster alignment by educating my co-workers on the perspective of the customer. I would regularly advocate for the customer and help my teammates learn to consider their needs while working to develop the products I am responsible for. Additionally, I would work to share customer feedback with the teams I work with to help develop user empathy and alignment with their feelings about our products.
