The interviewer is trying to gauge how you respond to positive, critical, and constructive feedback. Demonstrate your professional maturity by giving examples of times you have received feedback and how you positively reacted to it. The ideal candidate will view feedback as an opportunity to improve and grow; someone who responds negatively to feedback will be a red flag to the interviewer.

"In one of my reviews, I received feedback that I didn't delegate enough and therefore, it made it seem like I didn't trust my colleagues. I really took that feedback to heart. I took a look at my workload, which was really high, and made some priority buckets. There was one bucket of work that was very low risk and I distributed it to my team. One team member did a really great job so I was able to give her some of the more complex projects."

"I received feedback that everybody knows what I am thinking from my non-verbal expressions, especially in meetings. That was really tough feedback to hear. That entire next year, I worked very hard to ensure my facial expressions were positive and neutral versus worried or anxious, no matter what the content of the meetings were about. It was a tough exercise, but I'm glad I received the feedback or I would not have known this."

When I started working as a commie chef I was making desserts for 20 people. it was taking too much time so the head chef showed me a faster method to making the deserts. I listened carefully and did as he asked. He was happy and from him showing me the method I used the same method for starters and main courses as well and it was fast and efficient.

Stephanie's Feedback
This is a great example of constructive feedback. I suggest adding a conclusion sentence that wraps up your answer while stating your openness to feedback as a tool for growth.

I once got feedback that I just assumed everybody knew the same things I did, so I got upset when I didn't get the results or answers I wanted. Over time I have learned that I need to ask and communicate what I want and expect from my coworkers so everybody is on the same page.
Marcie's Feedback
Great! So it sounds like you learned to be a better communicator and to voice your expectations. Can you talk more about who gave you this feedback and what triggered it? Is there an example you can provide that shows how you've since learned to be a better communicator?
Anonymous Answer
I was told by a coworker after a series of meetings that I tend to come off very serious in meetings, and that it intimidates people and could make me seem less approachable. I am a passionate person and what I saw as dedication may have actually been making me seen as unapproachable, and while it was hard to hear I was too intense, I appreciated the feedback. It allowed me to take a step back and reassess my expression, intonation, and composure in meetings. Now I try to be conscious of my facial expression in meetings and to channel my dedication into a more joyful expression that can motivate the room.

Stephanie's Feedback
Great response! It sounds like you listened actively to this feedback, reflected on it, and used this feedback to improve for future meetings. Responding positively to feedback is a critical professional skill that does not come easily to everyone. It's great that you've mastered this, as it will translate well into any future career opportunity.
