What would you do if you knew you would be late or miss work?

Even reliable employees run into unexpected situations. Your interviewer understands that every employee will eventually be late or have to miss work eventually. However, how you handle the situation makes all the difference. AutoZone expects its employees to give plenty of notice if they are running late or missing their shifts.

Talk to the interviewer about how you would work to prevent these situations and what you would do if they occurred despite your efforts.

"I stay calm and composed when issues arise. My dad got rear-ended one time when driving me to school. I texted my friend to see if she could tell my teacher what happened. I explained the situation to my teacher when I got to class. If this happened on my way to work, I would call ahead of time to ensure someone could cover my shift."

"I was a stay-at-home mom for many years, and it taught me to always have multiple contingency plans in place in case things didn't go according to plan -- and I had to learn to think on my feet, as well. Once I rejoined the retail workforce, I realized that the adaptability and planning I learned as a mom were transferable to the retail market. Since I always have Plans B, C, and D running through my head, I don't become flustered when unexpected situations come up on my way to work -- I just move on to the next plan."
