Advice and answer examples written specifically for an American Express job interview.
23. What is your greatest weakness as a Project Manager? What are you doing to improve?
Why the Interviewer Asks This Question
The interviewer asks this question to confirm you are self-aware and can identify a deficit or an area that can be improved as a Project Manager. When you take steps to make your weakness a strength, it shows the interviewer that you are motivated and determined to be the best you can be.

Focus Your Answer On
Focus on briefly describing your weakness, then explain what you are doing to make that weakness a strength. While you start your response with a negative (a fault), you want to end on a positive note, describing how you are improving.

What to Avoid
Avoid describing a weakness that is an essential part of your job duties as a Project Manager. For example, if you say your greatest weakness is your leadership skills, the interviewer may hesitate to offer you the position since that is a vital skill needed for the job.

Answer Example
"My greatest weakness is my experience using PowerPoint and creating dynamic presentations. I gained minimal experience using the program while in college and can create basic presentations. However, I know there is much more to the program that I am unfamiliar with. I wanted to integrate videos into my presentations to make them more interesting, and I did not know how to do so. I signed up for an online Master's class and started it last week to improve my skills in this area. In just the last week, I have learned so much more about PowerPoint, and I feel this weakness will be a strength when I am done with the class in six weeks."
