"I led a team in a control group research study. At a crucial stage of the project, I went in early to set everything up. But on the way, my train stopped. We were stuck on the track for hours. It was my role to sit in a booth and appear on a monitor to the control group. Because of the nature of the work, it had to be me. I had my phone and my laptop with me.
I reached out to my team, and with significant trial and error, we figured out a way to patch me in. We tried several options before we made it work. Using my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, we used the camera on my laptop to patch me in. I didn't have my notes with me, so they had to take snapshots of them and text them to me, and I used my phone for my prompts.
It was stressful working this way while on the train. After we took our first break, the train started moving. When I arrived on campus, I jogged the rest of the way, getting in some exercise, which is proven to relieve stress. As soon as I walked into the room, I picked up where I left off without missing a beat. The volunteers didn't even notice. Our study was a success."
