The interviewer wants to get to know you to make sure you're a good fit for the position. You can talk about your educational background and how it prepared you for the job. Try to keep this answer brief, but give the interviewer reason to know more about you. The way you talk about yourself is also important. Be enthusiastic and composed. Show that you are prepared.
"I grew up in a firefighter family and knew this was always my calling. My father retired as a fire captain and my grandfather was fire chief for our local department. I received my EMT certification two years ago, and just completed my associate's degree in fire science. I thought I wanted to follow the route my father and grandfather took, but I am more interested in fighting wildland fires. I work out every day to keep myself fit for the job and do a combination of Crossfit and mountain biking. Currently, I am working construction as a framer until I get hired as a wildland firefighter."
