As an Oracle RAC administrator, you should be able to easily answer this question. When asked to compare two different systems, the easiest way is to state similar characteristics about each system that can be compared. You pick a characteristic of one system, state its properties, and then compare it to the characteristics of the other system. Since the interviewer did not ask for a recommendation, you should avoid trying to discuss which of these you prefer or would recommend to the organization. If they are interested in your opinion, they will ask a follow-up question.

"While RAC and Grid are similar, there are some significant differences between them. RAC has a single system image, while this is unavoidable in Grid. RAC provides proprietary interoperability with VIA. However, Grid does not use industry standards. Grid has multiple ownerships, but RAC provides single ownership. RAC has discoverable membership services, while GRID has a central Index and decentralized information to discover. The most significant difference between RAC and Grid is that RAC is a centralized environment, while Grid is decentralized."
