"Last month, I had a client who made a lot of additional last-minute changes to our file. Despite the changes, our deadline remained the same. The lead attorney on the case was afraid we would not meet our deadline, so I agreed to stay late three nights that week to ensure that all expectations were met."

Focus on assuring the interviewer that you are responsible, diligent, and will do whatever it takes to meet a deadline. If you assure the interviewer that you take your job seriously, they will see that you are a team player and have the skills they are looking for in a Court Clerk.

Avoid giving the interviewer a reason to believe that you are not diligent in your duties. If you respond that you frequently miss deadlines, the interviewer will likely determine that you might not be the best person for the job.

One time while working on a case, the other party submitted a motion that would overthrow the case. To squash the motion, we would have to respond within the next court date, a few days away, the attorney and I dedicated to that case and filed that motion before closing time that same day.

Great answer! You do a good job of laying out the situation, task at hand, your action, and result. My one recommendation is to expand more on your actions. Did you have to reprioritize or delegate other tasks to other team members?

I have stayed late to check a judgment that was difficult to enter and for which the attorney and my supervisor expected to be entered that day. While in ______ County, I volunteered for overtime when it was allowed to complete a project.

Cindy's Feedback
Good example! You can enhance your answer with detail and context. Why was it difficult to enter? Were the stakes high if you didn't get the judgment entered in a timely manner?

Last month we were conducting an investigation for fraud dealing with Beverage Members. I work the overnight shift and these members of the Beverage team were to be approached by Security Management and the Police during the morning shift hours. When the morning shift came around, half of the morning shift team were late, so I stayed an extra two hours along with my supervisor to ensure the approach went smoothly.

What specific responsibilities were required of you during the additional two hours to ensure the investigation was successful?
