Nurses can work in hospitals, clinics, correctional facilities, schools, home health, skilled nursing facilities, and more! The interviewer is interested in hearing why you want to work in a nursing home setting. Be sure to give a genuine answer and refrain from speaking negatively about specific age groups, other facilities, or settings.

"I have always been passionate about working with the geriatric population. For many, the nursing home is their home for many years and possibly the rest of their lives, so I enjoy caring for them and making a difference. I also like to build long-term relationships with residents, and it's hard to do that in a hospital setting where you treat new patients every day and never really have the ability to get to know them."

"When I was in nursing school, I did clinicals at the hospital and a nursing home, and I found that I loved working in a nursing home setting. I like the long-term care units, but I prefer to work with those on the sub-acute unit and help them transition from the hospital to eventually back home. I enjoy seeing their progress through therapy and rehab services and getting to know them during their time with us."
Yes, I do. I have over 10 years' experience working in the nursing home setting. I started out as a CNA, became and RN and worked the floor several years and then became a nurse manager. I have left the nursing home and tried different settings and each time I find myself wanting to come back. I enjoy the geriatric population so much and I find working in the nursing home so rewarding.
