Mentorship and inspiration can come from a veterinarian of the past, a family member, a professor, an author, or even a celebrity. Inspiration and mentorship can be found everywhere!
A mentor can help encourage and empower you as you continue your academics and grow your career in veterinary medicine. Your most significant influence can offer you valuable business knowledge and life skills. They can provide great insights and introduce you to new perspectives.
Talk to the admissions team about your mentor or most significant influence on your journey to veterinary medicine. Discuss how your mentor/influence has helped you become the diligent student you are today and how they will continue to positively contribute to your journey while attending MU College of Veterinary Medicine.

"My greatest mentor and biggest influence is my grandfather. He is a retired veterinarian who practiced large-animal medicine in a rural area in Missouri for his entire career. Everyone in town knew him and trusted him with their animals. He was kind, empathetic, and very rational at the same time. He helped guide me and influence me through the consistency of his behavior. Growing up, I spent many summers helping him in the clinic, greeting people, organizing supplies, and even going on several on-site calls with him. Most of all, I learned about empathy and exceptional work ethic, two components I will bring to my practice once I am a veterinarian."
