In retail and manufacturing jobs, the company will often require you to wear a particular uniform. The interviewer is attempting to assess if there might be any reason you would be unable to meet their personal appearance standard, i.e. Tattoos, piercings, excessive jewelry, or the like. Be upfront with any potential issues you might have. If unsure of what may be acceptable or not, it is always best to receive clarification on the company's personal appearance code.

"I do not have any issues that I am aware of. In my previous position, we were required to wear a uniform, which the company also laundered for us. I don't know if you have that service, but I would love it if you did. I would be interested in learning more about exactly what your personal appearance policy entails."

"I do have a tattoo from my time in the service on my forearm. My last position allowed me to wear a long sleeve white t-shirt under the polo so that it was not noticeable. I would love to learn more about your personal appearance policies so that I can ensure that I arrive at my job and not cause any difficulty."
