I have to make split-second decisions almost every day at my workplace. From valves not opening correctly to being after me to think quickly on my feet. I always make sure I have an out and if I don't have an out it is safer to shut down a pipeline than to contaminate any product. We were pumping jet fuel up one of our lines and the operator notified me that it was flashing at room temp. I quickly had them shut down the pipeline and tested the tank. There was a missed cut a few days before and gas was trapped in the lateral. We were able to successfully cut the gas out at the other facility and keep it from contaminating an entire tank of jet fuel.
