QUESTION 30 OF 33

How do you delegate tasks?

Delegation is a requirement to be an effective leader and good communication skills are required to delegate tasks and projects successfully. When answering this question, walk the interviewer through your thought process of how you decide what to delegate and to who. How do you ensure your employees have the capacity to assist you and how do you ensure the tasks are being completed without being a micromanager?

"Typically, I look at priorities to determine what needs attention quickly. I then speak with my team members who see who has the capacity to take on additional tasks, and from there, I look at what strengths the team members have and align them with those tasks. I give clear expectations of the project and when I expect them to be completed. I'm not a micromanager, so I typically trust them to get the work done and to come to me if they need support or have questions along the way."

"I first choose the tasks I'm going to delegate, then I look for the team member with the skill sets and capacity to assist. I give clear directions on what needs to be done and when and answer any questions they have. Delegation assists me with a heavy workload and builds trust between my team members and me."

Anonymous Answer

I delegate tasks that someone else can do that don't require my intervention. Something that has helped me in my career journey is that I observe and learn from others. I have been observing and reflecting on how my past manager delegated tasks to me and trust is one key to being successful when delegating tasks.
