This is one of those questions that gauges much more than one might think. This question is not only the interviewer's way of assessing your integrity, but also your discretion.

"Honesty is critical when it comes to anything related to policy, procedure, and standards. We must, however, ensure that we do not take a matter of opinion and tout "honesty" as a way to be hostile, controlling, or disrespectful of others. For example, we should have integrity when exercising a company's casual Friday policy by only wearing approved attire. Telling another associate, however, that their sweater is tacky and ugly and not up to dress code standards is unnecessary and rude, even if we may believe it to be an "honest" assessment."

"I do think that it's best to be completely honest in as many situations as possible. I understand there are some times when telling the full truth will not help either party but, for the most part, I do agree that honesty is the best policy."
